Negative thinking can be a habit of the mind.Thoughts sink in and linger there until you take action to get rid of them.
When you first start thinking negatively,you try as hard as possible to stop thinking about them and push them out.We are programmed to scan our environment, searching for problems to fix, and that requires spending a significant amount of mental energy considering what-if or worst-case scenarios. Negative thoughts become a problem, however, when we start to believe they are true.
Resisting those negative thoughts can actually reinforce that thinking pattern and just make things worse. The more you try not to think about something, the more you actually end up thinking about it.
Fortunately, a variety of tactics can help you repress negative thoughts and learn how to think more positively.Here are a few of them:
1. Make awareness a big deal.
Once you see what’s happening, you can change it, even if it’s challenging. Taking responsibility for participating in this dynamic, rather than being a victim of it, is a great way to start clearing space.
2. Ignore the true haters.
I used to try to reason with haters. As a life tactic, this has only failed me and wasted time. Wasting time thinking about your haters is time you could be using for your much better things.
I’ve never really had haters – at least not in-my-face haters, but I did have someone talk negatively about one of my articles in a forum today, and, as far as I know,
that’s never happened before.
I think that’s a good thing! It means I’m standing out. It means I’m different than the other people in my niche. And that’s EXACTLY what I want to be!
3. Build up your own radiant energy.
When you are stronger, you are more resilient! Baths in Epsom salt and baking soda (1 cup each) are relaxing and rejuvenating. Clean your house. Eat more plants. Bask in more sun. Get deep into self-love.
You’ll know when you’ve succeeded in your negative energy detox when life is brighter, your home is more organized, you’re happier, more energetic. You’ll sleep more soundly.
4.Minimize Toxic Relationships.
Remove toxicity from your life. Toxic relationships often come hand-in-hand with negativity. If an individual makes you feel bad about yourself, what you do, how you are, then the person is toxic. Toxic people often make others feel bad in order to feel better about themselves. Unfortunately, these individuals can be family, making it difficult to completely remove them from your life. In these cases, minimize the time you spend with them and work on cultivating healthier, happier relationships.
5. Focus on the Whats and Not the What ifs.
Many of us let fear and anxiety impair our ability to move forward and achieve the things that will bring happiness into our lives. Negativity feeds on fear and anxiety. As a result, focus on the things you want to do and imagine yourself doing them. Push out the fear and the anxiety and instead, imagine the positive feelings and happiness you’ll get from doing the things you want to do.
6. Do What You Love.
Enjoying the things you love allows you to feel positive, happy and joyful. When we do things that feel good and that bring us happiness, we disengage negativity.
7.Love What You Do and Where You Do it.
Granted, when times are tough, we may not have the luxury of being too picky in this area. But, when we work with people who are negative, it can be draining. Further, if the morale of the company is really low, your work environment can have a tremendously negative impact on you and your overall outlook. If this is the case, look for a new job and seek out a company that is known for having a healthy, positive culture. There may even be an opportunity in another department within your existing company.
Get involved in your local community. Do some charity work. Get involved with a non-profit. Be a big brother or sister. Getting involved in philanthropic programs makes a positive impact on the world around you, ultimately making you feel positive about yourself and about life.
