Deodorants or antiperspirants are things, many of us rely on to control perspiration, but we are unaware of the number of side effects associated with them. Common toxic antiperspirant ingredients are Aluminum Compounds, Parabens, Phthalates, Proplyene glycol, Silica and many more. The various aluminum compounds used in antiperspirants clog pores thus preventing the release of sweat. But sadly, antiperspirants do not prevent releasing of sweat, hence sweat builds up behind ducts blocked by antiperspirants, and is trapped beneath the skin.
Unlike their synthetic counterpart, natural deodorant has a wide range of benefits. The use of all natural deodorants reduces the probability of diseases caused by toxic chemicals and allergens. I searched for natural and cheaper deodorant alternatives and listed are the things I found:
Lemon juice contains citric acid which is really efficient at killing odors. Lemon juice can also kill bacteria, thus providing double protection.
All you need to do is cut a lemon into half and rub some of the lemon juice on your armpits. Gradually you will see that the difference in the skin underneath your armpits, it will start to appear lighter and blend with the rest of your skin.
Lemon juice tends to cause a tingling feeling, so don’t be afraid of that. The tingling sensation will pass in a matter of seconds as the juice dries up. Girls, do remember, you should not use it immediately after you’ve shaved your armpits.
2.Apple Cider Vinegar
I always swear by Apple Cider Vinegar. Apple Cider Vinegar is an excellent substitute for deodorants and you should give it a try.
Take a cotton pad or ball and put a little ACV on it and dab it on your armpits and let it dry.You will be surprised at the results, as it will keep any kind of odor at bay. It does not prevent the release of sweat, but I can assure you that you won’t be stinky henceforth.
Baking powder can be used as an excellent natural alternative to a deodorant. The alkalizing properties of baking soda can neutralize acid in the body, thus combating odors.
Mix a teaspoon of baking soda in water to form a paste and that’s it. It will last for quiet some time and you will save up money as well in the process.
Hydrogen peroxide works exceptionally as a deodorant. It also has a lot of antibacterial properties.
Take a little Hydrogen Peroxide on cotton wool and dab it on your armpits. The use of Hydrogen Peroxide will keep the sweat odor at bay. You can also be used it as a mouthwash and teeth whitener by diluting it with water.
Ensure that the concentration is 6% solution or B.P 20vols. You will find this information usually written on the container.
A high concentration can be very harmful to your skin.
